toy collectwhore: Orange Lantern Lex Luthor

11:49 PM

Had good fun breaking down some quality articulated art of the past few years but with all the dope pieces that have come out recently--emphasis on DC Direct's Blackest Night wave 8-- here we are back to 2011.

Orange Lantern Lex Luthor
Artistic Integrity:   So many concepts from Blackest Night that was utter genius.  Near the top-- was the use of deputy Lanterns to help with the slaughter of the DCU at the hands of the Black Lanterns.  And now we got Orange Lantern Lex, as Agent Orange 2.0 in one of the most impressive figs of the past 8 lines.

Really dig how they went with the look of the costume in it's transparent plastic form to resemble how Lex's Avarice-flipped power suit is a construct projection.

Aesthetics of the toy is closer in look to one of Doug Mahnke's dark drawings with his menacing, crazed gaze.  Only hit on this is that the neck armor is nothing like any of the Blackest Night art we have seen but more of a stylistic shout to the old Super Powers line.

Fun Factor:  Immediately, I noticed something that is one of the only knocks I usually call DC Direct on-- and that is in the realms of higher points of articulation.

Of Blackest Night wave 8, Black Lantern Flash and Lex are the first casts that go beyond their standard 12 movable joints to 16 in the biceps and ankles.  Sure it's not in the Mattel/Hasbro world of movement with 20+ points, but surely in the right direction.

And how can we not recreate the battle over who wants everything more between the DCU's grinch Larfleeze (with the assist from Glomulus) and the insatiable power-monger, Lex Luthor.

Fo-reals brah:
The look and feel of this fab fig is dope indeed and though I am not often one to get duplicates between the same pieces made by both DC Direct and Mattel-- will have to break that norm as the Four Horseman rock an ill version of their own.
