Remender is Killing It

11:10 AM

Rick Remender was a name that popped up around 2008 to me from my homies/comic-pimps James (Isotope Lounge) and Ryan (Comic Conspiracy) as I always ask these cats who I need to watch out for as the next BFD.  I was impressed with his 2 ish Starro story in Booster Gold 13 and 14 which had big shoes to fill following up the incomparable Geoff Johns.

Remender's style was crafty, inventive and full of laughs as it should be with Booster.  So now we are in 2011 and I have been reading books that don't bare an X for the last few years-- well until now.  In Uncanny X-Force, Remender pushes his pen to a whole different rhythm with darker strokes (not unlike his work in Punisher I hear) on the mutant wetworks splinter-cell.  In a mere 5 issues, we are seeing the fleshing out of a real intriguing character in Fantomex, the rare humanity and serious-side in Deadpool (after Apocalypse was murdered) and a collection of uh-not-ah takes with use of obscure characters like The Fourhorseman and Deathlok.

With most incredible writers you can bet equally talented artists are on board to elevate the visuals and story-- and we have been treated to such so far-- with Jerome Opena and Esad Ribic.  And just peep that upcoming cover by Simone Bianchi!  *drool*

In Uncanny X-Force 5.1 (yeah I still don't get it, though it signals a jumping on kinda book, right?) Remender is teamed with artist Rafael Albuquerque to bring Psylocke and the rest of the hitsquad headup with Lady Deathstrike and the Marauders.  And if you haven't heard, Remender is busting some new shit on Venom in Amazing Spider-man.  Pick it up, pick it up!
