Makin' Ears Smile - The Roots shall proceed to Yo Gabba Gabba!

8:46 PM

The Roots are one of my favorite hip hop bands of all time. They perform the best live shows around. For over 15 years, they continue to reinvent themselves with each album without sacrificing their underground hip-hop, jazzy and eclectic foundation. They have achieved crossover success without "selling out" while influencing numerous bands from all music genres. They have come full circle - becoming the house band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and with this appearance on the children's show, Yo Gabba Gabba!. Peep this:

I think this is awesome. I like how all the members are all jolly (Questlove and Black Thought are hilarious bouncing around and all smiles). Hip Hop purists may frown at this but I applaud The Roots. They are playing for a particular audience - children. Alas, don't fret b-boys & b-girls, they still bring it. Check the technique.

I wish Yo Gabba Gabba! was on when I was a young tyke. Not only would I have been introduced to The Roots and other guests bands like The Ting Tings, The Shins and The Clientele but they also featured dance, beat boxing, indie cartoonists, and visuals of retro video games and TV shows.
The cherry on top are the magnificently cool characters. From left to right:Plex, Muno, DJ Lance Rock, Toodee, Brobee, & Foofa.
Ok, ok I will admit...I currently do watch this show. No shame in my game, ha.
