toy collectwhore: Arkillo

4:19 PM

This is only my second journey (first was Atom Smasher of the JSA) into scooping up a whole wave to make the badass Collect and Connect fig that Mattel offers as an incentive to toy heads like you and me.  Its definitely a creative way in keeping the hardcore pumped to see the more, obscure and in many cases-- oversized figs make their way to our shelves.  Enter Arkillo of the Sinestro Corps.

Arkillo
Artistic Integrity:   As I was popping open the packaging of each of the Green Lantern wave 1 figs, first up on the bucket list was assembling the savage, Sinestro Corps drill sergeant of space sector 674.  As you can see the mold stylings are in line with the exaggerated, near anime art of Patrick Gleason.  The details of the cast are on point with the power ring on his left vs right hand, body resembling that of a mutant gorilla with the larger upper body and stumpier lower and just great choice in having his jaws with those killer, ferocious canines.

Again like most of the DC Universe figs, the only complaint is going with a flat vs. shiny paint when it would do it more justice in this case.

Fun Factor:  Sure Kilowog and Arkillo have some hate going on, but not on the level that he has with Mongol.  During the incarceration of Sinestro just prior to Blackest Night, the Sinestro Corps were splintered between leadership of the two.  And with a slightly larger version in this mold, we have a battle of the arch-enemies ready to wage war.  Who is more fearsome??!  (Definitely not the Mattel version, though the articulation and colorway rocks).

Fo-reals brah:  There have been numerous murmurs across the web that DC Direct is planning on exiting the toy/figure biz and only focus on the sculpts...yeah, crappy news but when you have the Four Horsemen making the same figures (compare to the DC Direct Arkillo, just released this week)-- duplication on such a low margin biz isn't well good business.  And with the Mattel going as far as making the next installment of DC Universe Classics dedicated solely to Green Lantern-- looks as though the direction is in good hands.  Good for us!  Yes, this is the first ever rated 5 shaka fig.  Much love!
