Life Imitates Art- Anne Hathaway is Catwoman

10:30 AM

Deadline NY, /Film and the rest of the web have reported on the official press release of Anne Hathaway accepting the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises". In addition, Tom Hardy who many believed was to be Hugo Strange, will actually play the role of Bane.

Sure, I get why many hardcore Catwoman fans have their hands in the air saying WTF?! but it's hard to argue that from a purely visual standpoint-- Hathaway will rock it on the big screen as Batman's longtime feline-fling.  I hope and pray to Buddha that the costume connects back to the current garb that was popularized by Jim Lee and Adam Hughes (emphasis on AH!).  It doesn't take much imagination to see how good Hathaway will look in black.

BURBANK, CA, January 19, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
As for the ensemble villain cast to now house Bane, the man that broke the Bat-- I like the idea of Hardy bringing on more of the philosopher-warrior type role of the character--similar to how Bane is being written in Secret Six by Gail Simone.

Backtrack...let's not forget that the role of Catwoman has been popularized in past flicks by Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry..I would have to say that Anne Hathaway has both the theatrical chops and straight sexiness to make her Catwoman work in Nolan's re-visioned Batworld.
