WTF moment of the week- Batman's New Look

12:36 PM

In an interview published today in the LA Times-- Grant Morrison, released some teasers on his upcoming maxi-series- Batman: The Return (coming in October) and new book- Batman Inc.-- the coolest of all, two images of Batman (Bruce Wayne) in his new threads by the hand of David Finch.

My first thoughts on this "new look" is how the return of the classic Batman symbol works well within Morrison's concept of Batman Inc. being like that of a "franchise" and what better corporate brand for Bruce Wayne to use than the iconic, golden Bat-signal.

The isolated black bat symbol that was a homage to Kane and modernized by Frank Miller, can be used by Dick Grayson if he still keeps the cowl and allows for enough artistic interpretations and differentiates between who is who-- well along with the number of claws on the gauntlet.  The minor detailing of the armor indentations throughout the costume is a nice add being that we all know Batman can't withstand all the damage he takes in mere spandex, right?!

Yeah I know we are in the world of superheroes and all, but I am glad they decided to lose the outer-under pants, that of all the DCU-- never really felt right with the intense, uber-Alpha dog persona of Batman.

Yeah, good point on the outer-under pants :)

Honestly the thing I'm most intrigued by the Batman Inc. idea is that Morrison found a way to keep Grayson and Wayne in the cowl simultaneously - that, plus Damian? That should make for some powerful, weapons-grade chemistry.

Someone pointed out that this looks a lot like the Geoff Johns/Gary Frank Batman OGN costume. Ever since I heard that I can't unsee it.
